UE CALOOCAN FEATURES MASSIVE ECOBRICK FORMATION

-

The University of the East (UE) signified its commitment to environment-consciousness by unveiling the UE Ecobricks Formation last February 15, 2019, at the UE Caloocan Field. The formation featured close to 1,000 students of the UE Caloocan Basic Education Department and over 10,000 ecobrick bottles produced by UE Caloocan’s Basic Education and National Students Training Program students, and officers and members of recognized UE Caloocan student organizations.

Ecobricks — used plastic bottles filled with various non-biodegradable materials — are a good alternative for construction materials. Such non-biodegradable materials include plastic wrappers and bags, straws, Styrofoam containers, shampoo and coffee sachets, and plastic utensils. The use of ecobricks has been gaining ground nationwide and worldwide, with a number of organizations and institutions utilizing ecobricks for walls, beach resorts, schools and even houses.

Since October 2018, students, faculty members, administrators and employees of the University were creating the ecobricks to be used in the formation, following lectures on the proper way of creating ecobricks. In a span of five months, the UE community was able to produce over 10,000 ecobricks for the formation.
