Bong Go motorcade gets warm welcome
Residents in Mandaluyong and San Juan cities yesterday welcomed former Special Assistant to the President and senatorial aspirant Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, showing their appreciation for him through chants and posters as his motorcade drove through the streets in a campaign motorcade.
Many of the residents bore placards with the name and picture of the former SAP, chanting his name, and for a few times even stopping traffic because of the large crowds.
Go said he is humbled by the reception he received from Mandaluyong and San Juan residents as he also expressed his gratitude for their outpouring of support.
“Thank you very much to my brothers and sisters in Mandaluyong and San Juan, for your warm welcome; even on a Sunday, you went out of your houses. It took away the tiredness even if it was very hot and I already got sunburned. You can count that I will continue to serve my countrymen,” Go said.
Go had built a strong relationship with many residents of Metro Manila, particularly the urban poor, with his advocacy to give assistance to fire victims.
In September last year, Go visited and gave assistance to 374 families in Barangay Addition Hills who were affected by fire that razed their community.
Fire protection and prevention is one of the priorities of Go’s legislative agenda.
Go is pushing for a more intense fire prevention awareness drive, particularly in informal settlements where accidental fire incidents take place more often.
In one of those visits, Go would take time to also talk to the members of the local TODA (Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association).
TODA-National Capital Region president Ace Sevilla said that an accidental meeting with Go led to the holding of the National TODA Summit in January this year.
Many urban poor have also benefitted from the services of Malasakit Center, a program of the Duterte administration based on Go’s idea. The center makes it faster for poor patients to avail of medical and financial assistance from the government by bringing together in one room all concerned government agencies such as the DOH, DSWD, PCSO and PhilHealth.
