POC’s Vargas guest at PSA Forum

Philippine Olympic Committee President Ricky Vargas will be the special guest in today’s Philippine Sportswrit­ers Associatio­n Forum at the Amelie HotelManil­a.

Vargas is appearing in the session presented by San Miguel Corp., Tapa King, Amelie Hotel, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporatio­n along with Ed Picson, secretary general of the Alliances of Boxing Associatio­n in the Philippine­s (ABAP), of which Vargas is also president.

The two are expected to discuss the training of the athletes and the preparatio­ns being undertaken by the country’s Olympic governing body regarding the hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian Games later this year.

Also invited in the 10:30 a.m. public sports program are POC Chairman Abraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino and POC secretary general Patrick Gregorio.

Shortly after the Forum, Vargas will induct into office the new set of PSA officers.

Manny Lopez, former head of the boxing associatio­n, and taekwondo champion Ali Atienza bared their thoughts during separate sessions at the 17th edition of Usapang Sports presented by the Tabloids Organizati­on in Philippine Sports (TOPS) at the National Press Club in Intramuros, Manila.

“I think we can win the overall title on the SEA Games again. I think it can be done basta lahat tayo sama-sama,” said Lopez.

For his part, Atienza said, “Always aim for the gold. The attitude must be ‘it’s gold or nothing.’”
