Albay under state of calamity due to El Niño

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay — The Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office (APSEMO) said on Thursday the province of Albay is under the state of calamity due to impact of El Niño.

APSEMO chief Dr. Cedric Daep told the Manila Bulletin that the Sanggunian­g Panlalawig­an of Albay (SPA) has approved a resolution on Wednesday declaring the entire province under state of calamity.

Based from the damaged assessment report of the Provincial Agricultur­e Office to APSEMO, a total of 1128,656,360.00 worth of damage only in rice while 133,339,102.50 is the damage cost in corn due to dry spell.

The town of Daraga has the highest damage in rice with a total of 151,000,000, followed by Legazpi City with 125,211,666.00 while the least damage cost was recorded in Malilipot town.

When it comes to damage cost in corn, Ligao City has recorded at least 116,928 950.00 damage cost, followed by Oas town with 18,580,040.00 damage cost; Daraga with 13,268,500.00; Polangui with 12,531,062.00 and Tabaco City with 12,030,550.00 damaged cost.

Record showed that at least 74 barangays or a total of 126.48 hectares of farmland in the province is affected.

According to Daep, the report does not include damage report on livestock.
