RADIO VERITAS ASIA CELEBRATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY

-

Radio Veritas Asia and Radio Veritas 846, the first Catholic radio station in Asia is having a three-day celebration of its 50th anniversary this month of April.

On April 21, Easter Sunday, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle will hold a mass followed by a thanksgiving fellowship of Radio Veritas Asia and Radio Veritas 846 anchors and loyal Kapanalig listeners and other benefactors. This will be at the Radio Veritas Asia compound in Fairview, Quezon City.

Earlier in the month, on April 10, members of the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC) Office of Social Communication met at the University of Santo Tomas. A Thanksgiving Mass was held presided by the Apostolic Nuncio Most Rev. Gabriele Giordano Caccia with his eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle as homilist.

The event marked the conception of Radio Veritas Asia at the UST Central Seminary during an assembly of 100 bishops from Asia and Australia way back in 1958. Eleven years later, on April 11, 1969, the Radio Veritas facility in Fairview, Quezon City was inaugurated by Antonio Cardinal Samore from the Vatican and Manila Archbishop Rufino Cardinal Santos.

The next day, April 11 at Radio Veritas in Fairview, Quezon City, festivities were held for the unveiling of the 50th anniversary commemorative marker, the inauguration and blessing of the Radio Veritas Asia Museum and the awarding of 50 individuals and institutions who continuously support the apostolate of Radio Veritas Asia and Radio Veritas 846. A mass was presided by Archbishop of Freiburg, Most Rev. Stephan Burger alongside the FABC Chairman, Cardinal Charles Maung Bo of Myanmar.

According to Fr. Anton CT Pascual, Radio Veritas President, “celebrating our Golden Anniversary highlights our continued dedication to stand for the truth much like the same way Radyo Veritas carried the message of Jaime Cardinal Sin who urged the public to go to EDSA in what became the 1986 People Power Revolution."

For his part, Rev. Fr. Victor F. Sadaya, General Manager of Radio Veritas Asia adds, "the celebration of Radio Veritas Asia’s golden anniversary marks the convergence of all benefactors and sponsors, Asian Bishops, Priest-Religious coordinators, producers and contributors who unconditionally commit to the vision and mission of Radio Veritas Asia.”

This three-day anniversary celebration was made possible through the generosity of Rustan’s Commercial Corporation, Philippine National Bank, Columbian International Foods, Inc., and Journeys of Faith, Inc.
