JISON FAMILY DONATES LAND TO PWU
The Philippine Women’s University (PWU) recently received three hectares of land located in a premiere village in Silay, Negros Occidental. The land was donated by the Jison family in memory of their patriarch, Pablo Jison, who passed away in 2001.
The donation was formalized in a ceremony held on March 9, 2019, at the Silay City Civic Center, with PWU President Dr. Jose Francisco “Kiko” Benitez and Ms. Elisa Jison as signatories to the deed of donation. Also present as witnesses were PWU Chancellor and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Felina C. Young, PWU Executive Vice President Marco Alfredo M. Benitez, PWU VP for External Affairs Alfredo B. Reyes, PWU board member John P. Sevilla, Rep. Alfredo Abelardo B. Benitez (3rd district, Negros Occidental), Silay City Mayor Mark Andrew Golez, and members of the Jison family.
The property is central to the university’s expansion initiatives, as it will be the location of PWU’s newest campus. Addressing the Jison family in his speech, Dr. Kiko Benitez said that the donation “is a testament to your trust in PWU as an institution of higher learning. It has taken the [PWU] Board of Trustees time to decide whether or not we were ready to expand in the Visayas; the donation of the Pablo Jison family was the signal for the institution that it is indeed right, in our hundredth year, to open once again in the Visayas.”
This year marks the centennial anniversary of Philippine Women’s University. The Visayas expansion is one of many proposed capacity-building initiatives that celebrate this historic milestone.
