Lim assures senior citizens of increased aid

-

Comebacking Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim yesterday assured the senior citizens of Manila that once he wins as mayor, the assistance being given to them will not only be increased but they will no longer have to spend on transportation just to get the benefits, since they will already be distributed through their respective barangays.

Lim, who is running as the mayoral candidate of the ruling PDP-Laban party headed by President Rodrigo Duterte, made the assurance during a meeting with hundreds of senior citizens from the sixth district of Manila, where he was joined by his candidate for Councilor Raffy Crespo Jimenez whom he said will be assisting him in the creation of worthwhile projects for senior citizens, so that those who are still able and willing, may be able to have income opportunities.

The senior citizens complained that when they are made to travel to the Universidad de Manila just to get their benefits, they get tired and their benefits become less since they have to spend money on transportation.

In his speech, Lim said the senior citizens’ affairs office will be made to come up with a scheme to make it easier for the elderly to get the benefits that are due them.

He also urged the elderly to be wary of candidates who are engaging in vote-buying, saying these candidates do not just belittle the character of the voters but are also bound to steal from the government coffers once given a chance to sit in office, so as to get back their so-called "investment."

Lim told the senior citizens to get the money being given by the candidates and then junk them, so as to make it known to the said candidates that their (voters’) integrity and dignity are not for sale.

Lim also vowed to bring down the rates of real property tax before it was increased by 300 percent by the city government and the city council. In that dialogue, business and property owners appealed to Lim to act on the very high taxes they have been paying, once he becomes mayor.
