HIV GET Project’s Battle in the Blood Finalist at the 2019 Ripple Awards
The HIV Gaming, Engaging, and Testing (HIV GET) Project of the University of the Philippines Manila, which developed a mobile gaming app called “Battle in the Blood” (BitB) has been nominated to the 2nd Ripple Awards as “Project of the Year.” The project, led by Dr. Emmanuel S. Baja, a DOST Balik-Scientist from Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, is one of the five finalists at this year’s charity event organized by Love Gala.
This year’s gala will honor individuals, organizations and a project which made significant contribution in making people’s lives better, particularly those that are at risk for HIV and those that are HIV-positive.
Highlighting the great cause of BitB in its encouragement to at risk population to get tested for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, the effort was not ignored, as it became one of the five finalists from numerous submissions. The game features eight different stories of people living with HIV across 90 levels and a customizable avatar.
The game’s ultimate goail is to increase awareness of knowing HIV status. With its contribution and effort in making positive effect not only to Filipinos, but also across the globe, the game became a trend in Google Play under the educational category. The app is also free in the iOS.
With the theme “Courage Amplified” this year’s Love Gala will feature Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach and Concert King Martin Nievara. The award ceremony is slated on May 11, 7pm at ABS-CBN Vertis North, Quezon City.
