Ai Ai delas Alas takes on role close to her heart C-6

- By KAREN VALEZA-TUNGOL

After doing several indie films, Ai Ai delas Alas is back to her comedy roots with the recent “Feelennial, ” and soon “And Ai, Thank You.” Directed by Joven Tan, Ai Ai plays a famous celebrity named Ailene Dela Rosa. Her first time to do such a role in her 30 years in show business, the comedy actress had several pegs for her character. “I’m not as nice here compared to my projects before. Her experiences in life changed her behavior and attitude towards people,” she explained.

The actress joked: “I’m happy because I always wear makeup here, I’m glamourous here. Everyday is makeup day. Usually, I portray a poor character or a mom. But here, I have a glam team, an assistant, a PA, and

a driver. Thank God I’m rich!”

Her glam team is composed of Juliana Segovia, the PR person; Kakai Bautista, the assistant; and Dennis Padilla, the driver.

Ai Ai said the role reminded her a thing or two about fame.

“When the time comes that you’re about to ‘fade out,’ you lose the people who used to love you. It’s not just the pain of celebrities, but also others, who experience being left out...”

Ai Ai admitted she was pressured before to do new movies because of the blockbuster success of “Ang Tanging Ina,” which was also made into sequels. Now, she feels more relaxed going about it. Indeed, the concert comedy queen no longer has to prove herself having accomplished a lot.

“I have gone through everything. I'm just now enjoying this gift of the Lord, which is the extension of my career,” she said.

Asked how she wants people to remember her, Ai Ai said, “Isang komedyanteng nagpasaya sa kanila ng maraming taon, isang mabuting ina.”

She bared her plans of having a baby with husband Gerald Sibayan next year. She will put her showbiz career on hold by then and just rest for health’s sake.

“I really wanted to start resting January so that I could give birth by November. But there were so many things I wanted to finish,” she said.

“But next year, I want to go on vacation to be able to take care of myself and my family. If I’ll be required to just stay in bed for nine months, I will do it,” she said.

With plans of having the life of Regal’s matriarch Lily Monteverde made into a movie underway, Ai Ai’s name is also one of the names being mentioned to play the role of the seasoned producer. Ai Ai feels honored but she feels there are other actresses who can do a better job.

“I think it would better suit ate Vilma (Santos) or Juday (Judy Ann Santos), more on dramatic actresses. Mother Lily is really a character. She’s also funny,” Ai Ai said.

“And Ai, Thank You” opens in cinemas tomorrow. Also in the cast are Ruffa Mae Quinto, Joey Paras, Rubi Rubi, Joross Gamboa, and Anjo Yllana.
