Robber shot dead

BACOLOD CITY — A security guard allegedly shot to death a man who robbed a 19-year-old student along Araneta-Alijis Streets in Brgy. Singcang-Airport here on Sunday. Killed was Arnold Genevera, 39. Maj. Charles Gever, head of Police Station 8, said Genevera ran towards the area of the old airport after he allegedly robbed the student’s cellular phone worth 17,000. Genevera reportedly declared a hold-up at gunpoint, and fled. He was chased by the victim but he fell on his knees which caused him minor injuries. Bystanders at the old airport also helped in chasing him and asked assistance from the three security guards who cornered Genevera when he passed by the vicinity of the said office. Genevera fired his gun at the security guards. Delmar Pequino, one of the pursuing security guards, fired his .9mm caliber pistol service firearm at Genevera who was hit at the back. Gever said they are still checking if the suspect had previous involvemen­t in other crimes. (Glazyl Masculino)
