UAAP SEASON 82 Three games for Bo

- By KRISTEL SATUMBAGA

The UAAP has slapped an additional two-game suspension on University of the Philippines coach Bo Perasol following his outburst in Sunday’s game against Ateneo.

UAAP commissioner Jensen Ilagan disclosed this decision in a statement yesterday after a thorough review of the incident.

Perasol was ejected midway in the third quarter after storming inside the court and confronting referee Jaime Rivano for perceived questionable calls. His ejection automatically merited a one-game suspension, but additional sanctions were added for his “continuous flagrant acts of aggression” toward the game official despite being restrained by his team members.

“May this incident be an example for players and coaches alike to exhibit tremendous restraint and discipline, not just towards officials but everyone on the court,” said Ilagan. “We’d also like to remind the teams that there are proper avenues to raise these contradictions and complaints to protect the sanctity of the game we all love.”

Perasol will serve his suspension during UP’s games against Far Eastern University on Sunday, University of the East on Oct. 12 and University of Santo Tomas on Oct. 16.

Perasol has already apologized prior to the decision and said in a statement that it was time to move forward.

“It’s time we all realize that we all, players or supporters, should pick up the pieces when we lose and not beat each other up to pieces when we do not come out victorious,” he said in a post from the team’s official social media account.

“I am not perfect, and I will never be… I coach not only for myself or for my players, but for the entire UP community.”

Perasol gave himself an ultimatum this season.

“I know that if I do not deliver now and go all the way in Season 82, then I have no business being at the bench of the UP Maroons any minute longer,” he said.
