Water bonsai made easy

-

JUST A THOUGHT: “A smile is a light in the window of the soul, indicating the heart is at home.” – Unknown WATERLESS BONSAI: They’re bonsai, all right, but they need no watering.

Water bonsai plant making, or the art of dwarfing plants, is an advocacy of Edwin dela Torre. The 43-year-old teaches interested parties how to make them in partnership with MOWELFUND, the non-government organization whose mission is to serve marginalized workers in the Philippine motion picture industry.

Edwin, an environmentalist, plantlover, and former company driver, is based at the Mowelfund complex on Rosario Drive, Cubao, where he holds livelihood courses for movie workers and their families.

BONSAI MADE EASY: Water bonsai making is quite simple, according to Edwin, a native of General Santos City.

Materials are generally inexpensive. These include plant cutting, powder grower, used bottle, rubber mat, masking tape, tap water, pebbles or any colored stone.

Edwin is the developer of Water Bonsai Technology, which is based on a novel idea of cultivating plants that thrive in tap water environment. Water is mixed with an innovative “powder grower” that can completely supply the needed nutrients of plants.

Creating the powder grower and its attendant simple technology is the result of Edwin’s passion to help clean the environment. Edwin registered his company and aptly named it Global Water Bonsai Enterprises.
