As sure as the son rises
Joaquin Domagoso is bound to make waves in show business the way his father, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, did years ago
Joaquin Domagoso may have his father Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso’s good looks and gift of gab but the former prefers to use their real last name than the latter’s screen name that spelled luck for him in show business back in the day.
In an interview, the explanation of the first-year college Business Management and Entrepreneurship student could not have been simpler: “I like my last name.”
Indeed, this teenager may have a smiling face, sunny disposition but the longer you talk to him, the more you realize that, like the father, he is his own man, not be swayed by the crowd.
Joaquin is certainly proud of the hard work his father put in to get to where he is now. He hopes people would find inspiration in what he does, especially in terms of how to get things done.
How’s Isko as a father, we asked.
“He’s a good dad. He always tells us to do right,” he said. “Parang there’s no difference actually when you watch him on TV, the only thing is na strict siya
sa TV, parang may pagkaMayor siya. Pero the values he brings out sa life niya, like being good, compassionate, he’s the same whether on or off camera.” Like the father, Joaquin is into helping other people. Recently, the young actor mounted a feeding program for kids, done in partnership with the Mrs. Universe Philippines Foundation. The current Mrs. Universe Philippines is Charo Laude who is set to compete in Guangzhou, China in December. This early, is he already thinking of getting into public service someday?
“Not in my plans right now. Siyempre I’m so young. Si Papa nga he didn’t think of politics until he was in his 20s.” Joaquin said his dad gives him practical tips in acting. The former has been attending workshops under director Ryan Carlos.
“He tells me, ‘Listen to your co-artist when you’re doing scenes, listen to your manager. Follow the rules, don’t break the dos and don’ts,’” he said. Joaquin is cast in the horror-comedy movie “Jolly Spirit Squad.” He finds the experience of shooting a “great experience” and “very fun.”
In the movie, Joaquin’s mom is played by Lotlot de Leon. “She’s inspiring,” he said of the seasoned actress. “She helped me a lot. She was there to help me, giving advice.”
Joaquin is seen on the musical variety show “Studio 7.” He already has a lot of friends in show business, particularly the twins Mavi and Cassy Legaspi. On finding success in his current endeavor, Joaquin said, “I mean if it happens, it happens. I gotta do what I gotta do. And it’s fun! That’s the best part.”
