The scent of love

Heart Evangelista is Avon’s muse for a scent that sparks wanderlust

- Kim Reyes-Palanca

Fragrances instantly awaken “scent memories” in our brain. With a whiff, a scent can play out a story in one’s mind—vividly, intensely, as if the story just happened yesterday.

When it comes to scents we wear, we all have fragrance preferences that influence our scent personalities. These so-called signature scents are the ones we go back to, always on rotation, depending on many factors: the weather, time of day, or what part of our personality we want to exude or highlight.

Scents are powerful tools that conjure a feeling or mood. They bring to mind the detailed elements of that one special memory. They give headspace, which is why spraying or surrounding yourself with a specific scent can change your physical and mental state. It’s a form of escape as it has the power to set the scene.

Avon’s newest scent for the beloved, Far Away Glamour, is one that sparks wanderlust and the feeling of being whisked away somewhere exotic and magical.

It comes in a modern flacon embodying its floral-oriental fragrance. Patchouli, black currant, and orris harmonize into an earthy accord.

As seen in the promotional video, it’s all about opulence, glamor, self-discovery, and worldly pursuits—things the brand’s newest muse, the beautiful Heart Evangelista-Escudero, is no

stranger to.

As an actress, artist, author, ambassador, and romantic, Heart proves having and creating beautiful things, traveling, and mindwandering are not trivial pursuits. They are essential in having a fulfilling, purposeful life.

The newest Avon ambassador talks with Manila Bulletin Lifestyle about her passions, perfume personality, and scent sensibilities.

How do you pick the scent you want to wear?

My choice of scent depends on the occasion. It’s like immortalizing a memory. Every scent reminds me of something.

If you were to describe Far Away Glamour through a painting, how would that picture look like?

It would symbolize women who are a bit more structured and diverse women of different colors. They would be working together and uplifting each other. No woman should be in the middle. Everybody is equal. I feel that it says so much about us women really lifting each other up and inspiring one another.

Do you have a beauty tip for making scents last longer?

I like to mix my scent with lotion or oil. Like olive lotion, or maybe a lightly scented lotion, which seals the scent. I also like mixing scents.

Like many Avon ambassadors before you, you’ve been an advocate for many causes and have contributed in upholding them. What causes for women do you feel strongly about? How would you like to bring awareness to them?

I do a lot of charity work for Corridor of Hope, which supports breast cancer patients, as well as other people with various types of cancer. In my own simple way, I am there for them, inspiring them through my paintings. Having a painting class [for me] is a form of women empowerment.
