Cloudy skies to prevail in parts of Luzon

Cloudy skies with light rains will prevail over parts of Luzon this weekend as the northeast monsoon or ”amihan” is expected to continue to prevail in the country, the state weather bureau said.

In its latest weather update issued on Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said amihan will still affect Luzon and will bring cloudy skies with light rains over the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon.

PAGASA said windy conditions are also expected in coastal and mountainous areas of the mentioned provinces.

In Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains will be experienced also because of “amihan.”

Meanwhile, easterlies or the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorm over Visayas, Caraga, and Palawan.

The weather agency warned residents in areas affected by the easterlies on possible flash floods or rain induced landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Due to the surge of amihan, a gale warning was raised over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon particularly on the coasts of Batanes, northern coast of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte.

Rough to very rough sea conditions are expected with wave heights reaching up to 4.5 meters.

The state weather bureau warned fishing boats and other small seacraft not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves. (Alexandria San Juan)
