Baby brand Spinkie gives children an avenue to discover worlds beyond their imagination

Amother’s biggest responsibility, which starts way before she gives birth, is to look after her child and mold him to be the best version of himself. What makes this journey even more fulfilling is when a mom gets to touch, not just the lives of her kids, but that of other children as well.

It was while at an ob-gyn appointment in 2010 when

Mutya Laxa Buensuceso,

heavy with her first child, realized this could be her calling. A global brand director at a multinational company, she knew she had the potential to do something inspiring out of her motherhood journey.

In that same year, she launched her brand Spinkie in Singapore, where she used to work. For the first product, Mutya collaborated with another mom from the US and came up with a chiropractic pillow for infants to adults. The Butterfly

Pillow’s versatility gained good reception, and this spurred the driven mom to create more products that held meaning to her.

“The journey was hinged on the journey of my children. As they grew up, I was inspired by them—what they needed and who they were as kids. So, we started creating a whole world together. [We] imagined things, let our imagination run wild, and the world of Spinkie came about,” Mutya says.

From then on, her brand has included products that are crucial to a child’s development. Though she had to temporarily closed her business for a few years, Mutya has relaunched Spinkie online and introduced a line of beautiful room decorations, a hit among Millennial moms in different parts of the world.

Wanting to be a part of making children’s spaces, the hands-on mompreneur took note of the sought-after decorations and incorporated her brand’s soft and dreamy touch into her works. Once again, Mutya captured the attention of many with her debut product. This time, though, her Dreamy Canopy gained so much popularity on Instagram that celebrities like

took notice.

But this mom isn’t just hoping for a good reception. She also aims to use her products to help in the personal development of other children. After all, Mutya believes providing a wellthought-out environment will benefit a child in the long run.

“What a kid sees in his environment is his living space, and he spends a lot of time there. It shapes who he is, so why can’t we spend a little bit more time or thought in creating that space for him?” she says. “It impacts a child’s culture. It challenges a child to think deeply, and to create by providing a stimulating environment.”

Just recently, Mutya launched another line in her growing brand— Spinkie Wear. This came to be after several requests of life-sized versions of the dresses worn by its

Khloe Kardashian

dolls. Through this clothing line, the mompreneur hopes to promote creativity among children through clothes.

“We’re creating stuff for her [the children who play with Spinkie products], magic starts with her. So we need to enable [that] to complete her world with stuff that she can also wear, whether she’s just playing, going somewhere, and wants to have a little bit of that magic with her,” Mutya says.

She may have achieved so much, but this mompreneur is far from done. A children’s book is currently in the works, with the help of an Australian author and illustrator. All of this, and more, are part of Mutya’s desire to inspire more lives through her brand. “The more important thing is when a mom calls you and trusts your product. It just warms our hearts that a lot of women around the world are adopting Spinkie in their home.”
