Juris on working with Ice Seguerra as concert director
Working with singer-actor Ice Seguerra anew, former MYMP lead Juris revealed he really is “strict” as concert director.
Recall that early this year, she mounted a concert under his helm; one which they will do a repeat of today at Newport Performing Arts Theater at Resorts World Manila.
“We had several meetings with him at medyo strict siya,” Juris said. “Siguro baka kasi may pagka perfectionist siya? So baka gusto niya lang din pagandahin ’yung concert.”
Of course she understands him.
“He watched me the last time so sabi niya ‘Oh ’wag ng maulit ’yan. ’Wag kang magpupuyat,’ ganyanganyan, mga ganu’n,” she shared referring to losing her voice at the end part of that prior concert. “He gave me his feedback about what happened last time.”
Juris resolves to make everything perfect this time.
“Babawi ako,” she declared. “Because during that concert, I think an hour before the show,
’yung boses ko biglang nagtago siya ng konti. Buti na lang understanding ’yung mga tao.”
Juris admitted she never imagined it would happen to her.
“It’s a first time, actually, nangyari ’yun na ganu’n,” she related. “Siguro kasama na ’yung pressure na it’s my 10th anniversary as a solo artist, masyadong excited and pressure for everything that happened for the past 10 years, siguro parang binalikan ko ng todo that I started to get emotional with everything.”
“The preparation also, it’s close to my heart eh. Dahil ever since nu’ng concert ko, most of them, kami-kami ’yung nagtutulungan — management, my family. So, I guess, I wanted everything to be perfect.”
What should concertgoers expect in “Juris: The Repeat?”
“New things,” she said. “We added some songs and we chose — kasi siyempre nu’ng una what we learned is the songs are really... the show was too long — siguro feedback from the audience. We aim that the attendees ay uuwi na punong-puno ng saya.”
Aside from sitting in the director’s chair, Ice will be Juris’ guest performer.
She revealed that she actually asked Ice to perform. They’ve been friends way back.
“Sessionistas (‘ASAP’ band composed of Ice, Nina, Princess Velasco, Duncan Ramos, Richard Poon, Sitti Navarro, and Nina) days pa pero kilala ko na siya before though hindi kami close talaga. But sa Sessionistas kami nagkakilala and he became a good friend of mine.”
“‘’Di lang Ikaw,’ we both wrote that song and first-time nag-produce siya ng kanta. So malaking tulong si Ice sa buhay ko lalo na nu’ng nagsisimula ako. Kasi when I was with Sessionistas, du’n din nagstart ’yung solo career ko,” she added.
