Mommy community group Glam-O-Mamas gives thanks with a yearend party
Amanda Griffin Jacob was a new mom when she put up Glam-O-Mamas in 2011, which was followed by a Facebook group in 2014. It’s been nine years since then, and the community group has gathered over 37,000 active and engaged members, all supporting each other in their own parenting journey.
Glam-O-Mamas has harnessed the power of the digital world and used it to help parents who are lost and in need of help and support. This Facebook group is always alive with the exchange of so many messages from fellow parents who are sincere and honest, reassuring those who seek advice from this safe space.
This 2019 kicked off with #StartYourYearWhole: Encouraging Discussions in Health, Wellness, and Beauty, and founder Amanda, along with its core team Sheryn Alvarez and Trix
Clasara, thought it would be great to wrap up the year with a thanksgiving party. The theme this time is #EndWithAPositiveNote: A Yearend Thanksgiving Party.
Alta by Relik in Santolan Town Plaza welcomed the families to a fun Sunday brunch. Everyone came dressed in the requested Disney bounding theme, where all came dressed in their favorite Disney characters. Awards were given to the best in costume, and special acknowledgements to members who have touched lives within the community.
Amanda reminded the community members to help them by supporting her passion project in partnership with International Justice Mission (IJM) that is working to eradicate Online Sexual Exploitation of Children (OSEC). “It’s the use of a child to make sexually explicit photos, videos, and live shows in exchange for money. It’s so pervasive in our country,” says Amanda about the
Philippines being considered as the global center for OSEC. “Everyone has a gadget. Access to the internet and a good command of the English language. It is a grave threat to our Filipino children. The story of countless victims are heartbreaking. OSEC is ravaging our country.”
Amanda encourages the community to help her in this cause. She also adopted a GOM aftercare shelter that will help house, treat, school, and rehabilitate abused children. Some of the shelter’s volunteer needs include psychologists, therapists, medical doctors, nurses, and tutors. “I went and visited (the shelter). It really is very sparse. They don’t have any toys, many clothes and shoes. I know we can make a difference. I am so excited to adopt this shelter.”
