Angeline Quinto continues devotion to Black Nazarene
Tens of thousands of devotees are expected in Manila today to once again celebrate the Feast of the Black Nazarene popularly known as Traslacion.
Angeline Quinto is one of the celebrities who join in the festivities yearly. Given the chance, the singer-actress would climb up the “andas” this year in order to touch the blackened image of Jesus Christ – her sixth time should it happen.
The singer also intends to hear Mass at Quiapo Church before the start of the procession.
In an interview with Bulletin
Entertainment days prior, the 30year-old said she will pray for her mother to have long life, and for her (Angeline) career to flourish even more.
Angeline has been attending Traslacion since she was eight years old.
In 2009, she prayed to the Nazarene for a regular job so she could support her Mama Bob’s needs.
“Sabi ko nga no’n, kahit hindi related sa pagkanta basta may trabaho para makapagbigay ako ng income sa
nanay ko,” she said.
The singer’s faith in the Black Nazarene grew even more when her mom fell ill in 2010. Also in her prayers then was for her to win “Star Power.”
“’Yung pag-galing ni Mama
Bob ’yung isa sa mga pinakamalaking bagay na hiniling ko sa Poong Nazareno…,” shared she, who also emerged as champion on the singing contest. Reaching the top of the andas is never easy for Angeline. She neither expects nor gets special treatment to do it even though she is a celebrity.
“Nandyan ’yung mahahawakan ’yung katawan mo kung saan-saan. Pero okay lang kasi parang wala ng pakialam ’yung mga tao sa ganu’n dahil ang mahalaga doon is ’yung devotion mo,” she said. “Pero dahil taon-taon sumasampa talaga ako, nakilala na ako nu’ng iba doon kaya natutulungan nila ako sa pag-akyat.”
The festivities also serve as a chance for Angeline to meet up with her childhood friends from Sampaloc, where she grew up.
“Nakakatuwa lang kasi alam mo
’yung para kayong may reunion tapos (after ng procession) kakain kayo ng streetfoods tapos magpipicture,” she said.
The day of Traslacion is not only when she practises her devotion. Angeline has a life-sized image of the Black Nazarene at home. She also takes time off from her busy schedule to go to Quiapo Church every first Friday of the month.
