Rayver gets real on Sarah’s engagement, friendship with Matteo

- By REGINA MAE PARUNGAO

Rayver Cruz has nothing but congratulatory words for recentlyengaged couple Sarah Geronimo and Matteo Guidicelli.

Throwback: Rayver was said to be Sarah’s first boyfriend. Several reports claimed the two were together for a year until they parted ways in March 2010.

Although the matter, if true, is ancient history, some still wonder how Rayver would react to the engagement considering that he and Matteo are good friends.

“Oo nga, congrats, congrats!” he exclaimed when the topic was brought up. Bulletin Entertainment and other members of media interviewed him right after his performance on “All-Out Sundays,” GMA-7’s newest variety show which premiered Jan. 5.

The actor is confident Matteo would invite him to the wedding. He said, “For sure, invited ako du’n. Si Matt pa! ’Pag in-invite ako ni Matt, a-attend ako.”

Rayver said he knew Matteo long before the latter entered showbiz.

“South Boys kami eh. Ang liit lang ng community sa South,” he said referring to his home in BF-Homes, Parañaque City, while Matteo resides in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

“Way back, hindi pa siya artista... Race car driver si Matt, ’di ba? Magaling pa siya mag-go kart, kilala na namin siya. Mas naging close kami nu’ng nakikita ko na siya sa same industry, kasi mas lagi mo na nakikita eh,” he added.

The 30-year-old noted they never had an awkward moment between them even though Sarah is supposed to be a common denominator.

In fact, Matteo and Rayver were groomsmen in Rodjun Cruz’s wedding to Dianne Medina last December.

“Never (kaming naging awkward). Kahit tanungin mo siya,” he said.

Prodded about his past relationship with Sarah, Rayver insisted there’s nothing to talk about as both of them are happy with their own lives.

“Huwag ng lagyan ng... Matagal na ’yun (sa’min ni Sarah), ang babata pa namin!”

Rayver is excited to see his pamangkin with brother Rodjun. “Sobrang happy ako para sakanila ni Dianne. Nakaka-proud din na plantsado nila lahat ng bagay, may bahay na sila… ang ganda ng wedding nila. Worth it ’yung long engagement. Excited ako para sa mga mangyayari sa buhay may-asawa nila,” he shared. Describing Rodjun as a “man full of wisdom,” Rayver said he doesn’t need to give him advice on life and relationship.

About Rodjun, Janine

Asked if marriage is already in the works for him and girlfriend Janine Gutierrez, Rayver shrugged.

“It’s Rodjun’s moment muna,” he said. “Enjoy-in muna ng kapatid ko ’yung wedding niya. Ako, magtatrabaho muna.”
