Martin will gladly fulfill ‘ninong duties’ to KZ and TJ
For singer Martin Nievera, to be ninong or ninang in a wedding is not just about money and gifts but they must be “the confidants and protectors” of a union.
Martin was officially asked by newly-engaged couple KZ Tandingan and TJ Monterde to be a godparent in their forthcoming wedding.
KZ and TJ appeared in an episode of “Magandang Buhay,” Wednesday morning. While they were having a conversation with the show hosts, Martin gave them a surprise visit on set.
KZ, although visibly shy, found the courage to asked Martin: “Puwede ka po ba namin maging ninong?”
“I would be honored,” he responded.
In a separate interview, Martin believes he was asked by the two because of their “history.”
He serves as a mentor to KZ and TJ. He was also instrumental to their love story.
“Here’s one thing I can promise them: They can always depend on me,” Martin said. “I can be here to take care of their children, and to give them emotional support.”
KZ and TJ have been together for five years now.
“Si Sir Martin talaga ’yung isa sa mga tao na sobrang ino-honor namin ang mga sinasabi niya. He always means well. Kapag may mga nagagawa kaming dapat i-correct, sinasabi niya talaga. Kahit hindi kami nagkikita, magme-message iyan or tatawag iyan. Kapag alam niyang may pinagdadaanan kami, he always finds a way to encourage you and to remind you of your worth,” KZ explained on the TV show.
“’Yung kasal namin, ayaw namin ng showbiz. Pero nu’ng nagde-decide kami kung sino ’yung gusto namin na nandoon, pareho namin naisip si Sir Martin,” she added.
Martin shared an advice for the couple as they embark on marriage.
“It’s not the wedding. It’s the marriage. You really have to take care of the marriage. And take care of your careers. Kailangan ikaw ang number one fan niya, and ikaw ang number one fan niya,” he said.
