EA Guzman on being more open about his relationship with Shaira Diaz
Like any proud boyfriend, actor Edgar Allan “EA” Guzman posts photos of himself with his girlfriend Shaira Diaz, even if these sometimes draw criticisms.
In an interview, the 31-year-old star explained he does it for himself, and not for anyone else.
“Kaya ako nag-post is to express
’yung pagmamahal ko rin sa kanya,”
he said. “I’m proud of her.” The actor added: “Kasi hindi mo ba ipagmamalaki ang ganu’n ka ganda, ganu’n kagaling, ganu’n talino? Para sa akin, wala na akong ibang rason para itago pa ’yun.” He cleared, though, that he doesn’t post about themselves often, just photos that show their most memorable moments. “I’m happy and proud na alam na ng tao na siya ’yung girlfriend ko. Mag seven years na kami next month — ang tagal na rin. Happy ako na may freedom ako to express myself.” Asked why it took them a long time to finally share the real score between them, EA admitted it was a career move for both of them.
“Iniisip lang namin mga careers, especially ako, dahil mahal ko ang career ko masyado akong nag focus sa mga ideas ko na (baka ’pag inamin namin) hindi ako ma-team up sa iba, ’di ako mabigyan ng project. Pero parang sa akin, na realize ko (eventually) na tatanggapin naman ako ng tao. Kung meron man akong love life, hindi ’yun makakaapekto.”
That’s why during Christmas season last year, when EA and his family celebrated in Hong Kong along with Shaira, the actor wrote the caption, “Finally, we’re complete!” because it was the first time she joined their family picture despite that they’ve been to other trips before.
But while their relationship is A-okay, the actor denied they got engaged during their recent outing abroad. Then again, he admitted marriage enters his mind from time to time.
“Hindi ko siya (marriage) hinahayaan na gustuhin ko na kasi alam ko nga ’yung status naming dalawa. Na siya, bago lang din (sa industry), gusto ko siyang suportahan sa career niya. And ako naman ang dami ko pang pwedeng gawin,” he said.
“So, hindi totoo na nag-propose ako kasi may kanya-kanya pa kaming karera at ako po, especially sa akin, sa personal career ko, marami pa akong gustong gawin, and bata pa rin siya. Kumbaga walang pressure,” he added. “Gagawin niya ’yung gusto niya, mag-grow siya mag isa, ako ganu’n din. Ang saya lang na nandu’n kami sa ganu’ng klaseng relasyon.”
EA is starting the year with “Mia” co-starring Coleen Garcia. The romantic comedy film produced by Insight 360 Films opens in cinemas on Jan. 15.
