Construction of 4 key infra projects in M. Manila resumes
Construction works on key infrastructure projects in Metro Manila have resumed, following an approval from the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Thursday.
Civil works on Bonifacio Global City-Ortigas Link Road Project, Estrella-Panteleon Bridge, Binondo-Intramuros Bridge, and Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge have resumed two months after the enhanced community quarantine was implemented in Luzon.
According to Undersecretary Emil Sadain, safety guidelines issued by the department are strictly implemented during the construction on the four key projects under the government’s “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure program in order to prevent a chain of transmission in the workforce.
The Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) under Resolution No. 34 dated May 8, 2020 also gave the green light for the resumption of some construction projects but with strict compliance to DPWH guidelines.
Sadain said the department and the contractors of the BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road Project agreed to finally restart the construction which was temporarily suspended last March 17 with 51 percent progress.
This road project will serve as an alternate route for motorists traveling from Ortigas central business district in Pasig City to Bonifacio Global City in Taguig and vice versa.
Moreover, construction activities have also restarted at EstrellaPantaleon Bridge Project connecting Makati City and Mandaluyong City and Binondo-Intramuros Bridge in Manila which are 54 percent and 32 percent completed, respectively.
The department, Sadain furthered, is poised to finish the 440-meter Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge by December 2020. It is a four-lane bridge across Pasig River that links Lawton Avenue in Makati City and Sta. Monica Street in Pasig City.
