Jed Madela ponders how to ‘earn income’ amid COVID-19 situation

- By STEPHANIE MARIE BERNARDINO

Plan B or C---who hasn’t thought about it at this point into the pandemic?

You’re not alone. Singer Jed Madela has been thinking of ways to make money as the entertainment industry continues to be gravely affected by the health crisis.

He posted his thoughts on the matter one early morning.

“Still awake. Nakatingin sa kisame... Nagiisip... Hmmm... ano kaya pwede gawin para kumita? Walang concerts... walang corporate shows... walang live performances... Paano na...,” the artist wrote on Facebook.

The comments section was immediately filled with messages. One of his fans suggested he goes into vlogging like many celebrities have done.

But Jed said there’s “no money there.”

“Hmmm walang pera dun eh... unless super sikat ka na vlogger,” he said. “I have YouTube but it seems people are not interested. Hahaha.”

A quick look at his YouTube channel shows he has about 35,000 subscribers after having uploaded 100 videos since May 2017.

Some netizens suggested for Jed to do other types of content, like virtual singing lessons or coaching.

Then again, hope springs eternal. Few days after posting his thoughts about earning, Jed shared his song “Superhero” has made it to the Top Tracks Ireland chart. It sits at number 42 in the Top 200 All Genres category, and number 15 in the Top 200 Pop category.

The hashtag he used, “#SaIbangBansaPaNapansin,” seems to be a comment on how some Filipino listeners have ignored or forgotten the song, which he released years ago.

More recently, Jed’s manager, Annie Tajanlangit Mercado, hinted they are “breaking ground” soon.

“Throwing away that proverbial ‘lemon’… Nope, not making lemonade… We’re breaking grounds. This is the ‘New Normal’ coming very soon.”

The post came with a video that shows them acknowledging how badly the industry has taken a hit, but they are making new plans to adapt to the changes.
