BTS’ Jimin tops brand rankings among 1,332 K-pop idols

K-pop superstars BTS member Jimin has emerged again as the No. 1 K-pop idol in terms of brand reputation.

The Korea Corporate Research Institute released the new brand reputation rankings of the top 100 idols for May 2020. The analysis covered 1,332 K-pop idols based on 151.96 million pieces of big data from April 23 to May 23.

The idols were ranked based on consumer participat­ion, media, communicat­ion and community indices. It measures how consumers’ online habits have an influence on brand consumptio­n. Through the top 100 idol ranking, it can measure negative and positive evaluation, media interest and consumers’ interest in K-pop artists.

Jimin topped the ranking again with a score of 7.73 million, lower by 19.7 percent compared to his first-place score of 9.62 million in April 2020. Jimin has placed first since the top 100 idol ranking began in December 2018.

Fellow BTS member Suga rose to second place from 16th place in April. He scored 6.12 million, an increase of 115.49 percent compared to his last month’s score of 2.84 million. Suga is featured in IU’s song “Eight,” which was released on May 6. He also released his mixtape “D-2” on May 22.

EXO’s Baekhyun placed third with a score of 5.61 million, rising from 12th place last month where he got a score of 3.25 million, or an increase of 72.78 percent.

Former Wanna One center Kang Daniel grabbed fourth place with a score of 5.07 million, down by 45.11 percent compared to 9.25 million in his second-place ranking in April.

Oh My Girl’s Arin rose to fifth from 45th place in April. She scored 4.4 million in May, a hefty increase of 312.64 percent from 1.06 million last month.

In the top 10, seven are male idols and three are females. Ranking sixth to 10th are BTS’ V, 4.3 million; Park Ji-hoon, 4.03 million; Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon, 3.68 million; Big Bang’s G-Dragon, 3.12 million; and Oh My Girl’s Hyojung, 3.04 million.

Heechul of Super Junior ranked 11th followed by RM (BTS), 12th; Hwasa (Mamamoo), 13th; Solar (Mamamoo), 14th; Jin (BTS); 15th; Jungkook (BTS), 16th; Minhyun (NU’EST), 17th; Seolhyun (AOA); 18th; YooA (Oh My Girl), 19th; and Seungyoon (WINNER), 20th.

Ranking 21st to 30th are Jiho (Oh My Girl), YoonA (Girls’ Generation), Cha Eun Woo (Astro), Jung Yonghwa (CNBLUE), Ren (NU’EST), Baekho (NU’EST), JR (NU’EST), J-Hope (BTS), Seunghee (Oh My Girl) and Jennie (BLACKPINK).
