Hyun Bin hopes to visit PH ‘soon’
Executives of Smart Communications, Inc. confirmed the mobile services provider’s latest endorser, Korean actor Hyun Bin, will visit the country once the COVID-19 situation improves and he is allowed to do so. According to Jane Basas, Smart SVP and Head of Consumer Wireless Business, “bringing Hyun Bin was something that was natural for us because it would’ve been crazy for us not to do it.”
She added they know for a fact that Filipinos’ interest in K-Drama content, such as the Hyun Bin-starrer “Crash Landing On You,” is at an all-time high.
“In terms of our service, our biggest service right now is called the Giga Video, and people actually subscribe to the video to watch their K-Drama content, so the feedback that we’ve gotten the past few days, since we launched the Hyun Bin campaign, has been quite phenomenal.”
The full Hyun Bin commercial signalling he is with Smart Communications came out few days ago. It shows the actor riding a sports car and zooming past the city streets. The ad concludes with Hyun Bin delivering Smart’s new tagline in Filipino, “Simple. Smart Ako.”
Since then, many Filipinos have wanted to know when exactly they would see Hyun Bin on local soil.
Ramon R. Isberto, PLDT-Smart First Vice President and Public Affairs Head, says to just hold their horses.
“It’s not definite yet when he’s coming, because, you know, we have to still deal with this COVID situation, but he is definitely coming. When exactly etc., like I said, we’ll work it out,” his words were.
A video shown during the Zoom press conference sees Hyun Bin, himself, saying he wants to go.
“Filipinos are some of the warmest fans in the world, and I am thankful to Smart for giving me a way to reach out to everyone in the Philippines,” he said.
This is the first time a local telecoms company has tapped a South Korean superstar to be the face of its brand.
