Megan, Mikael weigh in on return to work for actors amid pandemic

Now that Metro Manila is under more relaxed general community quarantine, it’s likely many fans wonder: Will their favorite actors soon resume tapings and shootings for projects?

Celebrity couple Megan Young and Mikael Daez think the answer requires balancing several factors.

Mikael, who stars on GMA’s “Love Of My Life,” explained via virtual press conference that while they want to ensure the safety of everyone, people should also have the means to earn a living.

“We are speaking not on a GMA level na lang, but in general na. This will be a very difficult balancing act talaga. We know that the government is trying to protect the people, but kailangan pa rin tumakbo ng ekonomiya natin,” he said.

“But I guess the keyword here is we are willing to try. Gusto natin i-acknowledge na nakakatakot talaga… na madaming dapat i-consider. Hindi lang kaming mga artista, kung hindi pati yung nasa production. Hindi lang naman kami ang naghahanap-buhay. Kailangan kumita ng bawat isa.”

He, himself, is not yet sure about going back to work.

“But we try to take it day by day,” he noted. “We are waiting as to anong magiging desisyon ng management. Of course, alam namin na ang GMA will set guidelines para ma-assure ang safety ng bawat empleyado. “

Realizations

On quarantine for more than three months now, Megan and Mikael shared realizations about their life and relationship.

“This is a difficult time for everyone. There are lots of uncertainties. Hindi natin alam kung anong mangyayari next month, kung magkakaroon ba n g vaccine o ano, but we try to just stay healthy and happy during these times.”

Megan sees the situation from a different perspective.

“Dito natin makikita na we can help each other. Ang daming nangyayari, but yung care natin for others, nandyan eh. At the same time, with my relationship with Mikael, this is the time that we became better partners to each other.”

Mikael added, “Dalawang bagay yan eh. Mayroon mga nawala sa atin, like yung hindi na tayo pwedeng lumabas but ngayon din natin mare-realize kung anong meron tayo, which is our family. “

The actor expressed gladness that all of their family members are safe.

“Mas okay siguro na sa ganitong bagay na lang tayo mag-focus. I-appreciate natin na kasama natin mga mahal natin para naman gumaan pakiramdam natin kahit papaano. Right now, hindi talaga natin kontrolado ang sitwasyon. Let’s remind each other na lang na, ‘Hey, we are still together.’ At the same time, help the one closest to us. Lets be grateful that the people around us are okay.”

Megan and Mikael tied the knot in January after 10 years of being together.

Both reiterated they didn’t have a hard time adjusting to married life.

“Walang pagbabago talaga kasi noon pa man, nung hindi pa kami kasal, like naguusap na kami tungkol sa mga bagay na pinaguusapan ng mga mag-asawa. It’s like a preparation somehow. Open kami sa usapin ng pera, also we will try hatiin ang trabaho sa bahay. So prior to marriage, we were able to get to know each other well na,” Megan said.

Baby plans, ehem.

“It happens when it happens. But hashtag I’m ready,” Mikael gushed.

Work at home

One of things they worked on during quarantine is how to be efficient. The couple are busy with their weekly podcast. They also set up an office so they can work on different projects.

“Siguro ito na yung pinaka-adjustment namin. Before kasi sanay lang kami na pagdating sa set, magbabasa ng script. But now, we need to handle everything. Walang mag-a-assist,” Megan explained.

Bulletin Entertainment also brought up the topic about the status of pageantry. Note that many national pageants already postponed their staging due to COVID-19 crisis.

Megan, who’s been hosting Miss World for years now, said she is still clueless on what will happen to this year’s instalment.

“I have no idea honestly. May naririnig ako na it will happen via online and I commend that. Why not, right? But let’s see.”

On their own

With a number of beauty queens taking their stance on national issues via social media platforms, Megan is not pressured to follow suit.

“There are a lot of outspoken beauty queens and I commend them for speaking their minds. But I’m not pressured to do the same thing because I believe na there are other ways to express support naman,” she explained.

Mikael added they are the type who rarely publicize every action they make.

“We just want to do good in our own way. Iba-iba naman tayo ng paraan. So kami, we just want to keep everything to ourselves. Ang mahalaga naman kahit anong paraan basta nakakatulong ka, yun yung nagma-matter.”
