112,414 workers displaced since January; 48,801 from NCR

The National Capital Region (NCR) registered the most number of displaced workers in the country since January, data from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) showed on Tuesday.

Based on the latest Job Displaceme­nt Monitoring Report of the DOLE, a total of 112,414 workers were displaced from January to July 5, and 48,801 are from the NCR.

This was followed by CALABARZON with 25,960; Central Luzon - 12,651; Central Visayas - 5,643; Cordillera Administra­tive Region - 5,166; Davao Region - 3,709; Northern Mindanao - 2,699; Ilocos Region - 1,648; Western Visayas - 1,644; Cagayan

Valley - 1,060; Eastern Visayas - 1,030; Soccsksarg­en - 802; Caraga - 686; Western Visayas - 670; Mimaropa - 224, and Zamboanga Peninsula - 21.

According to DOLE, the workers were displaced due to permanent closure of companies or retrenchme­nt.

“A total of 112,414 workers were displaced nationwide. Of the 4,354 establishm­ents that displaced workers, 3,946 reduced their workforce while 408 reported permanent closure.

The firms that reported permanent closure displaced a total of 9,394 workers while companies that retrenched workers affected 103,020 employees.

Most of the displaced workers were from administra­tive and support service with 30,831; followed by the other service activities with 16,133; and the manufactur­ing sector with 14,519.

Many were also displaced from the accommodat­ion and food service industry with 7,649; informatio­n and communicat­ion with 5,710; and financial and insurance activities with 5,023.
