Catriona Gray partners with Young Focus anew in launching ‘quality education’
Following the success of Young Focus’ “No Work-No Pay-No Rice” campaign few months ago, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray is knocking on everyone’s heart anew.
“To cope with the current limitations — education has migrated predominantly online but for many of our Filipino youth and vulnerable areas, having their own gadgets and access to reliable internet is just not possible. With this, Young Focus is launching the quality education for all initiative with the goal of raising 1 million pesos, that’s approximately 20,000 USD,” she said in a video uploaded on Facebook.
According to her, the fund will go to the creation of two computer centers equipped with social distance dividers, hand washing stations, sanitation equipment, and working computers in a safe learning environment, among others.
“Let’s help our children continue their education. Quality education is a right for all,” she ended the clip.
On the official website of the non-government organization, they shared their mission vision as they recognize the limitations their students will face at this time.
“Yes, private schools have online teaching as they have access to the internet. But the poorest among the poor don’t have internet – let alone a computer… They will get behind in their educational development if no alternatives are being offered!” they noted.
“We will adapt our methods of teaching and coaching this school year, doing it via parents, small groups, one-to-one, partly online, partly using handbooks. This also means we will need more computers for online learning, so we are planning to purchase an extra 20 computers for our centers,” they related. They promised that each donation will go towards educational materials, handbooks, modular teaching systems, extra computers, fast internet, and (social distancing) dividers.
“Thank you so much on behalf of the young people of Tondo!”
Recall that last May, Young Focus collected a total of ₱2.3M cash donations, just two months since Catriona Gray first promoted the “No Work-No Pay-No Rice” campaign.
In a six-minute video that she posted on Instagram back then, the beauty queen revealed that together with all of the donor’s help and generosity, they were able to raised that much money that allowed them to feed vulnerable 6,000 Filipino families in Smokey Mountain area with over 65,000 kilograms of rice and other food.
