Cebu City’s COVID-19 cases continue to go on a decline

CEBU CITY—The city on Monday recorded its lowest number of new coronavirus disease (COVID19) cases in a single day since it graduated from enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

In the September 28 bulletin by the Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development, only three cases were added to city’s COVID-19 tally.

The city, once considered the country’s epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, had 392 active cases, as of last Monday night.

The city has logged 9,978 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 8,913 recoveries and 673 deaths.

While the number of COVID19 cases in the city continued to decline, authorities reminded the public not to be complacent.

“COVID is still around, everything is fragile. The more that people should not be complacent. That’s why the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is very aggressive in finding, hunting and chasing COVID,” said city councilor Joel Garganera, who also heads the city’s EOC.

Garganera said the city continues to implement measures to prevent possible spike of COVID-19 cases.

“We have pooled testing in markets, meeting with supermarkets, construction firms and government offices where foot traffic is very high,” said Garganera.

Garganera said returning locally stranded individuals (LSIs) were being swabbed upon arrival in the city.

The city has already established swabbing stations in Pier 1, and more will be put up in the coming days.

“LSIs are being swabbed, not just those coming from Manila, but also those coming from all ports,” said Garganera.
