How Do Ideas Turn to Realities? Here’s How

- By LEN AMADORA

It was Forrest Gump who said it best, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.” Times are hard and uncertain, but getting through hard times is what we do best. We may have little control of what has been happening, but there is one thing that only we can control and that is what our minds create...ideas!

It begins with an idea, but it is not just the idea. It is about making ideas happen! Remember, ideas are worthless until you get them out of your head. Hence, a device that is fast, intuitive, and trusted is what you need. Of course, it doesn’t hurt if it looks good as well.

So how do you convert ideas to reality? Let the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5/5i show you how:

Get ideas out and be inspired with the look and feel of your device

We get ideas practically anytime, anywhere. If you are like me, ideas usually pop out randomly...while having breakfast, walking the dog, exercising, and strange enough, while taking a shower! As such, a “no matter where life takes me” kinda device is what I prefer. The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5/5i (14”) comes in a sleek, sturdy, and resilient design. Being a 14” laptop, I like that it is compact; and with a weight of only about 3lbs, I can easily slip it in my everyday tote bag. I also appreciate the clean, minimalist, matte finish design on its aluminum lid. The lid easily and smoothly opens up to about 140 degrees without squeaks nor resistance. Underneath the lid is a sort of matte/ anti-reflective finish 14-inch screen enclosed in a thin bezel. On top is the camera and the privacy shutter (more on this later).

When out and about, I get easily annoyed with stains and smudges that is why I totally appreciate the matte finish plastic keyboard that is not at all a fingerprint or a smudge magnet. Same holds true with its trackpad that is fairly smooth, sensitive, and non-obtrusive. Ideas come and go and sometimes they don’t wait. So when an idea comes to mind, make sure to take note of it fast! Good thing the IdeaPad Slim 5/5i is blessed with a keyboard that is tactile, haptic, light, and accurate to touch. With this, you can type in easily, quickly, and accurately whatever is on your mind without any interruptions from insensitive or mispressed keys. It also makes a lot of difference that the keypad is ergonomically designed that is easy on the wrist joint, suitable for prolonged typing.

Workability, Operability, and Efficiency for Productivity

Things are complicated as it is, that is why devices that are made simple or devices that do not complicate and challenge my patience top my list. Now working on a “so many features to explore, so little time” mode, I didn’t care to read the manual; but navigating through it was like clockwork. Set up was fast and easy. It worked immediately without me having to figure out what to do. Impressive as it boots up fast too. At 14-inches FHD (1920 x1080) In-Plane Switching (IPS), expect significantly good viewing angles and image quality. And because of its anti-glare finish, flashy images seem to appear subdued which I actually like because it is easier on the eyes and less tiring after prolonged screen time. The IdeaPad Slim 5/5i provides a good deal of screen area owing to its thin bezels giving the user ample comfortable space to work on.

One way to work efficiently is to know and understand what the device can do for you. The IdeaPad Slim 5/5i features the Lenovo Vantage application that shows you everything you need to know about the device. Presented on a dashboard are details such as Quick Settings, System Status and Updates, Warranty Updates, Preferred Settings, Security, Support, and just about everything that’ll help you keep the device up and running. Take note, it is always important to consider how the device and the user will interact with each other. The device should be easy to learn and understand. This enhances user experience. It’ll be frustrating for the user if the device cannot quickly perform the tasks given to it.

While also available in an AMD variant with up to the Ryzen 7 4800U Mobile Processor,up front, the Lenovo Vantage tells me that this is an IdeaPad Slim 5i that runs on an Intel Core i7 processor with 8GB RAM and is equipped with Windows 10 Home. What does this mean? Picture this, at 4GB you can already do basic web browsing. That being said, having been equipped with 8GB of memory, the IdeaPad Slim 5/5i can definitely do so much more than just basic browsing!

With it, you can run mainstream productivity apps and several browser tabs efficiently. Furthermore, with any of these processors, definitely, the IdeaPad Slim 5/5i can smoothly multitask with power and speed without any difficulty - efficient enough for work/ study from home tasks.

Security... because ideas are your own

Being smart, alert, and vigilant is not enough to protect you and your device from threats. For a hacker, all he needs is a single vulnerability. This is why security is important in any device. An ideal device should be equipped with robust security to protect itself (from viruses and malware) and its user (from identity theft). Based on the Lenovo Vantage Security Advisor, it is good to know that the IdeaPad review unit that I have has McAfee LiveSafe Antivirus. Although it is on a 30-day trial, at least for now I know I have something to rely on when it comes to security. The Security Advisor lets you check if your device is secured. It contains Password Health, WiFi Security, VPN Security, and Fingerprint.

For added security against hackers, the IdeaPad Slim 5/5i’s webcam has a built-in privacy shutter that users can

easily slide over the camera. This physical shutter acts as a barrier/cover so that no one can spy through your webcam. Another worthy feature the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5/5i has is the finger sensor integrated within the power button. With this biometric feature, in just one touch, the user can power on and login simultaneously. An easier, faster, and more convenient way to activate and unlock the device without compromising security.

Upon purchase, the IdeaPad Slim 5/5i comes pre-installed with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2019, enablingusers to create documents, presentations, and more with ease. In addition, it is bundled with Lenovo’s 3-Year Premium Care warranty for comprehensive support for hardware and software, as well as 24x7 access to Lenovo technicians. It’s good to know that we can all count on Lenovo to deliver smarter technology that will help us get through the current challenges and prepare for what’s ahead.

Breakthroughs and innovations were created from simple ideas. So go ahead. Create and make it happen because it all begins with an idea.
