2 LPAs, enhanced ‘habagat’ bring more rains over Metro, most parts of PH

- By ELLALYN RUIZ

Two low-pressure areas (LPAs), one traversing Northern Luzon and another that just entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), as well as the enhanced southwest monsoon or “habagat,” will continue to bring rains over a large part of the country today.

In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) located one of the LPAs in the vicinity of Conner, Apayao. This LPA formed east of Luzon last Saturday.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja said the LPA may become a tropical depression after crossing land or once it emerges over the West Philippine Sea.

The other LPA entered PAR on Sunday and was estimated 840 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. The LPA and habagat will bring scattered light to moderate rains, to at times heavy rains, over Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Island, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

The public is advised to remain alert during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially those in areas that are highly susceptible to flooding and landslides. The rest of Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms and the habagat. Flooding and landslides are also likely during severe thunderstorm activity.

Rough to very rough seas are expected over the coasts of Batanes, Cagayan, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte.

Those using fishing boats and other small boats should not set sail over these seaboards, while larger sea vessels should be on alert for big waves, PAGASA advised.
