71% Pinoy families get cash aid from gov’t

Seventy-one percent of Filipino families said they received financial aid from the government since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey revealed.

The survey, conducted September 17 to 20, 2020 among 1,249 respondents found that this hardly changed from the 72 percent in July 2020, implying that there has been no increase in the recipients of government’s cash subsidy between July and September 2020.

SWS said that 67 percent said they received cash aid from the government once, and 29 percent received it twice. The remaining two percent received it thrice, one percent received it four times, and 0.21 percent received it five times.

From the 71 percent whose families got the cash aid from the government, they said that they received an average total of ₱7,531, since the start of the COVID-19 crisis.

SWS said that this is a ₱943 increase from the average total of ₱6,588.17 received by families in July 2020.

On the other hand, the proportion of those whose families received the cash aid from the government was highest in Metro Manila at 82 percent, followed by the Visayas at 73 percent, Balance Luzon at 70 percent, and Mindanao at 64 percent.

By frequency of receiving, the majority of families that received cash aid from the government received it only once in all areas, except in Metro Manila where the majority received it twice.

Among families that received cash aid from the government since the start of the COVID-19 crisis, those in Metro Manila received the highest average amount compared to those in Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
