ABAP counters Eumir’s claims

-

Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines officials are puzzled at Eumir Marcial’s statements which reportedly put the association in bad light following the boxer’s trip to the United States over the weekend.

ABAP president Ricky Vargas and secretary-general Ed Picson said they have been convincing Marcial to start fighting as a professional after his Olympic stint next year, but it seemed the 24-year-old fighter has other plans.

“I don’t understand what Eumir is complaining about. Despite our pleas for him to start fighting as a professional after the Olympics, he decided to embark on a pro career at this stage. We wanted to help him in the transition but he refused our offers to assist him in that process,” Vargas said in a statement.

Marcial left for the US Sunday morning without his amateur coaches and claimed that he wants to start his Olympic buildup. (KS)
