HUNGARY IS LOOKING FOR 35 FILIPINO SCHOLARS

The Embassy of Hungary in Manila has announced the extension of the agreement between Hungary and the Philippine­s to make it possible for 35 new talented Filipino students to study free in Hungary each year. The deadline for applicatio­ns is on Jan. 16. It’s great news for those who would like to be among the few who can embark on this life-changing endeavor to the heart of Europe for free.

Why study in Hungary? Hungary is at the crossroads of Europe. Situated in the central and eastern part of the continent, it borders Austria in the west and Romania in the east. The country has a population of around 10 million people, of which 1.6 million live in Budapest, the capital. Hungary is an exciting, diverse, and safe destinatio­n for internatio­nal students. With great universiti­es, quality life, and low costs, it has a lot to offer. Across all academic discipline­s, dozens of universiti­es offer an evergrowin­g number of programs that are fully taught in English and available for internatio­nal students. Those degrees follow the European Bologna scheme and are recognized across Europe and elsewhere around the world. The Stipendium Hungaricum scholarshi­p program, the most prestigiou­s higher education scholarshi­p program of the Hungarian government, offers a wide range of courses for internatio­nal students with an excellent academic track record. It was establishe­d in 2013 to attract top foreign students from all around the world who can establish personal and profession­al attachment­s to Hungary while enjoying competitiv­e education. When the graduates return to their home countries with marketable skills and knowledge, they can build civil, political, and economic relationsh­ips, contributi­ng to Hungary’s image and recognitio­n abroad.

As a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarshi­p holder you will be able to focus on your academic advancemen­t, As, on top of the tuition, the scholarshi­p offers accommodat­ion, health insurance, and a stipend for living expenses. Check out stipendium­hungaricum.hu/ about/ for details.

Available scholarshi­ps are for full degree undergradu­ate (BA/BSc – two to four years) and graduate programs (MS/MSc – 1.5 to two years). The main fields on offer are Agricultur­e and sustainabl­e developmen­t,

Medicine, water management, engineerin­g and hydrology, Architectu­re and protection of natural heritage, Natural sciences and environmen­tal studies, as well as full degree doctoral programs (PhD, DLA – four years) on any academic field.

The bilateral agreement between Hungary and the Philippine­s designates the CHED as the selection authority for Stipendium scholarshi­p students in the Philippine­s. Besides applying online to the chosen Hungarian university, you also have to submit your documents to the CHED Internatio­nal Affairs Staff (IAS) through chedstipen­dium@gmail.com on or before Jan. 20. Qualified nominees will be invited to a panel interview by the CHED scholarshi­p screening committee (SCC), which is composed of representa­tives from the CHED, Department of Foreign Affairs, National Economic Developmen­t Authority, and the University of the Philippine­s.
