Most of Metro Manila, 80 percent total, now has 5th Generation (5G) outdoor coverage, Globe Telecom Inc. announced.

Both Bonifacio Global City and Ortigas Commercial Business Districts (CBDs) already have 97 percent 5G coverage while Makati has 95 percent.

The top nine cities with the most 5G outdoor coverage include San Juan (91%), Pateros (91%), Mandaluyong (86%), Makati (84%), Caloocan (84%), Manila (83%), Marikina (83%), Pasig (81%), and Quezon City.

In all, the telco upgraded 884 locations in Metro Manila into 5G-ready sites and is installing more 5G sites nationwide.

"With our aggressive roll outs, our network is getting closer to making the whole of Metro Manila 5G ready," according to Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO.

“We continue to invest on our network so customers can experience the most advanced technologies like 5G," he explained.

"Ultimately, our goal is to make the 5G experience as pervasive as possible.”

Globe is also boosting 5G readiness in other key cities such as Cebu and Davao.

To date, Cebu has 61% 5G coverage and Davao has 60%.

This year, Globe earmarked a capex of P70-billion, the bulk of which is for network expansion in key locations across the country.

Globe targets to install 2,000 new cell towers and will increase its fiber rollouts to connect more Filipino homes.
