60th National Day and 30th Liberation Day of Kuwait
The State of Kuwait celebrates its most important milestone as a democratic and dynamic nation, National Day and Liberation Day, every 25-26 February.
In line with the current challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the measures taken by the Philippine government, the embassy will not be holding a reception to celebrate the 60th National Day and 30th Liberation Day of the State of Kuwait this year in compliance with health regulations.
His Highness, the Amir of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Nawwaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, assumed the leadership of the state this past year. Soon after, He appointed His Highness, Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah as Crown Prince. Under the new political leadership, vision, and wisdom of Their Highnesses, Kuwait will continue the process of building and development as well as ensuring the continuation of diplomatic and international relations established by the late Amir His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah during his rule, and will continue engaging in positive communication around the world.
Kuwait and its people will not forget the honorable and firm stand of the Republic of the Philippines and its friendly people in rejecting the Iraqi occupation 30 years ago. That historic and noble position will always be remembered with gratitude. Kuwait continues to highly value the excellent and distinguished relations with the Republic of the Philippines. Forty-two years after the establishment of bilateral relations, the two countries maintain a harmonious and friendly relationship with fruitful cooperation in many fields. The two countries have supported each other in significant initiatives at bilateral and international levels. Kuwait affirms its commitment to constantly and jointly strengthen and elevate cooperation with the Philippines in more fields of mutual benefit.
Kuwait will continue its pioneering role in humanitarian and development aid. In the Philippines, Kuwait has provided housing projects in Samar for the victims of typhoon Yolanda. There are 297 housing units, 159 in Legaspi and 138 in Amambucale, Marabut Samar, which have been completed and awarded to a number of families who lost their homes during the typhoon. This housing project was named “Kuwait Humanitarian Village.” There are a number of other on-going humanitarian projects, including the
Kuwait Cultural Centre and Kuwait Educational Institute in Pagadian City,as well as humanitarian relief aid worth USD 300,000 allocated for the families affected by typhoons Quinta, Rolly, and Ulysses that hit a number of areas in the Philippines recently.
I take this opportunity to salute the Filipino community in the State of Kuwait where many of them are front-liners in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The good news is all front-liners have been vaccinated against this virus and, we have already started the process of inoculating the general public and all expatriates. That includes the much-welcomed Filipino community that reaches more than 250,000 women and men.
I take this auspicious occasion to convey the Kuwait nation’s wishes to His Excellency, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the Philippine government, and the Filipino people continued success as you pursue the path toward greater peace, progress, and prosperity, and as we look forward to further enhance our cooperative ties with the Philippines in various fields for the mutual benefit our nations.
Mabuhay!
