Lausa seeks 'second chance' to prove worth in comeback

- By CARLO ANOLIN

Filipino fighter Jenel Lausa is seeking big-time redemption when he enters the cage again on his muchawaited mixed martial arts comeback in BRAVE Combat Federation next week.

Lausa, who signed an exclusive multi-bout contract with BRAVE CF last month, will face undefeated Afghan warrior Rahmatullah Yousufzai in their flyweight bout in BRAVE CF 47: Asian Domination on March 11.

"I aim to win my debut fight and the next fights after that. I dream to continue winning and bounce back from the setbacks that I experienced," said Lausa, who holds a 7-5 record. "Being in the MMA world once again puts a big smile on my face. I am grateful for the opportunity that BRAVE CF has given me."

Lausa last saw action in the Octagon in June 2018 and suffered defeat at the hands of Japanese foe Yuta Sasaki in UFC Fight Night 132.

In his UFC debut, "The Demolition Man" scored a unanimous decision victory over Chinese opponent Zhikui Yao in November 2016 but experienced multiple setbacks from then on with three straight losses for the next two years in the biggest MMA promotion.

This time around, Lausa hopes for a career turnaround and said the BRAVE CF stint will serve as a "second chance" to prove his worth in the field of MMA.

"This is also a chance for me to substantiate that I have definitely learned from my shortcomings in my past MMA fights," added the former PXC flyweight champion.

Against Yousufzai though, Lausa will be facing an unbeaten striker who has earned the 2020 BRAVE CF Knockout of the Year award after stunning Abdulmanap Magomedov of Bahrain in 42 seconds in his BRAVE debut last September.

The Afghan pride, who now holds a 4-0 record, earned three straight victories in 2018 before taking his act in the Bahrain-based promotion.

And Lausa, 32, is expecting to have an all-out brawl while also preparing for Yousufzai's ground game.

Serving as the main event of the BRAVE CF 47: Asian Domination is a lightweight world title eliminator between Filipino star Rolando Dy, son of boxing legend Rolando Navarrete, and Abdisalam Kubanychbek of Kyrgyzstan.
