Cebu to offer Holy Week tour packages for local tourists

- By CALVIN CORDOVA

CEBU CITY – To entice local tourists, the Cebu provincial government, along with tourism players and tour operators, will offer pre-Holy Week and Holy Week tour packages.

The tour packages will target travelers from all over the country, especially Luzon.

Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia has met Department of Tourism (DOT) Central Visayas (Region 7) Director Shalimar Hofer Tamano, Provincial Tourism Officer Maria Lester Ybañez, and the players in the tourism industry to discuss the holiday getaway.

“Let’s work together so that we will be unified,” Garcia said.

Private tour operators, airlines, transport operators, hotels, and resorts in the province will be part of the program.

The tour packages will be patterned after the Capitol’s SuroySuroy Sugbo, the province’s prime tourism program that allows tourists to explore the 44 towns and six component cities in the province.

The governor has issued an Executive Order loosening the travel restrictions in a bid to help the tourism industry recover from the ill-effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the EO, the province will no longer require swab testing for arriving guests. Instead, guests will only have to present a medical clearance certifying them to be fit and must pass the symptoms check at the point of origin and upon arrival.

Visiting guests will only need to present proof of booking at a hotel or resort accredited by the Cebu Provincial Tourism Task Force.
