Globe rolling out over 1 M Fiber- to-home lines

As part of this year’s ₱70 billion expansion program, Globe Telecom Inc. will deploy more than 1 million fiber-tothe-home (FTTH) lines to meet rising demand for faster internet and work-from-home requiremen­ts due to the pandemic.

The telco is upgrading all of its remaining copper lines to fiber to modernize its home broadband service and improve connection­s.

Fiber connection provides a maximum speed of 1 Gbps compared to a copper ADSL’s maximum speed of 15 Mbps.

The higher bandwidth translates to more capacity to download or upload large files faster, stream high-definition videos and webinars, and run multiple online programs simultaneo­usly.

This technology ensures seamless connectivi­ty for those working or studying at home.

In addition, fiber only registers slight data signal degradatio­n, unlike traditiona­l copper cables which suffer from huge data signal loss over long distances.

These characteri­stics ensure consistent, stable connectivi­ty.

Authorized Globe technician­s do the fiber upgrades for free for At Home customers connected to old and obsolete facilities.

Once upgraded, customers can expect their modems to be upgraded as well.

Already, Globe has implemente­d additional safety measures given the ongoing pandemic, requiring its technician­s and broadband specialist­s to undergo regular COVID-19 PCR testing before deployment.

Service personnel have been trained on proper sanitation and social distancing measures, and are equipped with face masks, face shields and other personal protective equipment along with their Globe uniforms and accredited IDs.

“Having a high-speed and reliable internet connection is now a necessity given the pandemic’s impact on our daily lives,” says Darius Delgado, Globe VP and Head of Broadband Business.
