Kang Daniel talks about new album ‘Yellow’

K-pop star Kang Daniel made this comeback with his new mini-album “Yellow,” which topped physical album charts in South Korea.

Released on April 13, “Yellow” is Kang Daniel’s last color album series after dropping “Cyan” and “Magenta” last year.

Kang Daniel became a guest on “The Chart Show with Brooke Reese” on the music radio station Apple Music 1 where he talked about his new album.

With “Yellow,” he said, “I wanted to show kind of a duality. If you listen to the lyrics, there’s a little bit of sadness. There’s some deep thought. And a lot of people wouldn’t associate that with the color yellow.”

“And I want to show a little bit more maturity, but then the other side of yellow is the brightness and the happiness that a lot of people associate with the color. And then that theme could be shown through the track number five, which is ‘Save U.’ I just want to show just going through a difficult time and finding resolution,” the 24-year-old Kpop idol said.

“Yellow” contains five tracks including “Save U,” which features Korean rapper Wonstein.

About “Save U,” Kang Daniel said, “I’m really excited for my fans to hear this, because it’s actually a song that I wrote looking back at myself when I was going through a very difficult time. And I hope that that song is also for the fans, for anybody else that’s going through something similar.”

He said the most rewarding part of releasing “Yellow” is seeing it as a complete project.

“So with this project, I wanted it to be a complete project. And so just seeing it through from beginning to finish as an artist, I think the most rewarding part was just seeing the completion from start to finish, because it’s been something that I had been working on for a very long time.”

According to Korea’s Hanteo Chart, “Yellow” sold 316,542 copies in the first week of release from April 13 to 19. The album topped Hanteo’s weekly physical album chart, selling 300,511 copies for the period April 12 to 18.
