Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Hybris Mechanica Calibre 185

-

The talking piece for this year. Blog to watch describes it as “The cure for horological ennui.” This limited-edition timepiece, also known as the “Quadriptyque,” is an out-of-this-world spectacle to behold. Nothing beats this wristwatch in the intricacy department. Developed for more than six years, it was made to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Jaeger-LeCoultre. CEO Catherine Rénier compares it to a concept car, whose sixyear gestation will benefit the core catalog as the tech trickles down.

Everything about it is so complex, from its name to its Caliber 185 display, to its perpetual calendar, to its Clou de Paris guilloché dial, to its flying tourbillon, to its minute repeater. And this is just one of its four faces. The second face is a homage to the brand’s chiming watches. The third, inside the case, has three displays showing lunar information for tracking the orbital distance of the moon from the Earth as well for predicting lunar and solar eclipses. The fourth face shows the moon phase as seen from the southern hemisphere. Four faces! One might think this horological mastery is hulking in size, but it is only 51.2mm by 31mm wide and 15.15mm thick.

Only 10 will ever be made, €1.35 million. That’s almost R79 million.
