PH Miss Supranational 2021 bet wears evening gown designed by Bataan high school student
Miss Philippines Dindi Pajares showed grace and style when she won 1st runner-up at the Miss Elegance prepageant competition of Miss Supranational 2021 beauty contest which is ongoing in Poland.
But there's a humbling story in the evening gown worn by Dindi during the pre-pageant event in Europe.
Dindi wore an evening gown designed by Angeline Texon, a senior high school student from Bataan.
The Filipino beauty queen said that Angeline created the gown for two days shortly before she left for Poland, using a sewing machine donated by the government through its 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) to poor constituents.
"It warms my heart that such simple pieces achieve tremendous feat and are recognized internationally," said Dindi after she named first-runner-up for Miss Elegance of Miss Supranational 2021.
Angeline said that her creation started with a simple pencil and piece of paper.
"Growing up, I'm really into fashion designing. I always dreamed to be like Cary Santiago. There were times that I walked kilometers just to gather an excess cut of lace and fabrics from my nanay nanayan to make a gown by hand stitching," she said.
The young designer added: "I was just lucky to be included in the 4Ps program that gave me a sewing machine. This became my instrument in achieving my goals. I practiced a lot with the help of different people. And today, my heart is full of gratitude. It was surreal to have a chance to dress up our very own Ms. @dindipajares and the recognition that I am getting right now is overwhelming."
Humbled by the opportunity to create a gown for a beauty queen, Angeline said that the gown was made through hard work and patience.
"Within those two days, I only slept 4 hours to finish it and feed my passion. This will not be possible without these people -- to my family and friends who helped me, thank you so much. You guys served as my backbone. To Ms. Dindi Pajares thank you so much for trusting me and giving me an opportunity. Above all, thank you God for the talent that you gave to me," she said.
Angeline added: "And to the young dreamers out there like me, it may sound cliche, but it is true that if you don't give up, little by little, you will achieve your dreams."
The 12th edition of Miss Supranational pageant will air on Sunday, Aug. 22 at 2 a.m., live via satellite from Nowy Sącz, Poland on CNN Philippines.
