To accommodate late enrollees, the Department of Education (DepEd) has extended the enrollment period for School Year (SY) 2021-2022 until the end of this month.

During the virtual National School Opening Day on Monday, Sept. 13, DepEd Undersecretary Revsee Escobedo said the enrollment for this school year in public schools has been extended until Sept. 30, 2021.

“Umaasa tayo na sa buwang ito ay mas mahihigitan natin yung numero ng enrolment natin noong nakaraang school year 2020 to 2021 dahil nga ngayong Sept.13 sa pagbubukas ng klase, meron na kaagad tayong 24.6 million enrollees (We expect that this month, we will exceed the number of enrollees for the school year 2020 to 2021 because as we open classes this Sept. 13, we already have 24.6 million enrollees),” Escobedo explained.

Escobedo said the extended enrollment period aims to encourage more parents and guardians to enroll the children for this SY 2021-2022.

“Batay po sa napag-usapan ng execom [executive committee] noong nakaraang pagmi-meeting, magpapalabas po tayo ng memorandum na kung saan ang Department of Education ay tatanggap ng enrollees hanggang September 30, 2021 (Based on what the execom discussed during the last meeting, we will release a memorandum stating that the Department of Education will accept enrolLees until September 30, 2021),” Escobedo said.

As of Sept. 13, DepEd said that there are 24, 603, 822 enrollees in formal basic education.

Of this number, 18, 561,298 learners are enrolled in public schools; 1, 443, 849 students are in private schools; and 41, 348 learners in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs)/Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) that offer basic education.

Enrollment in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program also reached 198,297.
