Popular tourist destination Palawan was once again recognized globally following its inclusion in the best islands in Asia and in the world by the prestigious Travel + Leisure magazine.

Palawan was named among "The Top 5 Islands in the Asia" and ranked 5th with a rating of 88.63 joining Andaman Islands in India, Koh Samui in Thailand, Bali in Indonesia, and Maldives.

It also earned the 19th spot in the "World's Best Islands" list and was recognized by the magazine for being an "unrivaled diving" spot together with Thailand's Koh Samui.

The New York-based travel magazine described Palawan as a favorite tourist destination for its "mountains as well as white sand beaches washed by the Sula and South China seas."

"Resorts [in Palawan] range from eco-chic stays to the spectacular Amanpulo resort, accessible only by private plane. Its 58 casitas and villas are nestled in the lush hillside and along the beach; each villa has its own chef and butler," it added.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat welcomed the worldclass recognition given to the tourist island despite the travel restrictions and other challenges faced by the tourism industry as a result of the pandemic.

"The award accorded to Palawan speaks for the country’s tourism destinations, still being on top of mind of travelers," Puyat said.

"The Philippines’ natural wonders, coupled with the world-renowned Filipino hospitality, make destinations like Palawan truly one of the best, not just in the region, but in the world," she added.

In March this year, Nacpan Beach in El Nido, Palawan placed 18th among the "Top 25 Best Beaches in Asia" by travel website TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice 2021.
