Adiwang wary of ‘tricky’ Hexigetu

- By CARLO ANOLIN

Team Lakay strawweight contender Lito Adiwang said preparations are looking good for his fight against Chinese foe Hexigetu on Sept. 24 in ONE: Revolution at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

“Medyo napahaba 'yong pagprepare natin so I've been prepared for this fight,” said the promotion's former No. 5 contender.

“Medyo tricky siyang (Hexigetu) kalaban and may dalawang side siya. Kitang kita kaya niyang idominate sa ground 'yong kalaban, ido-dominate niya talaga. Kung 'di naman sa ground, sa striking medyo tricky 'yong striking style niya kasi medyo nagba-backpedal siya.

“Pinaghandaan ko 'yong style niyang 'yon. Tignan natin hoping na mahuhuli ko siya,” added the fighter nicknamed “Thunder Kid.”

It would be recalled that

Adiwang was initially scheduled to fight Hexigetu in

January but was eventually replaced by Namiki Kawahara where the Team

Lakay stalwart scored a secondround knockout win over the Japanese fighter.

The Team Lakay stalwart was supposed to fight world No. 1 strawweight Jarred Brooks in the ONE on TNT series in April but was scrapped as Adiwang tested positive for COVID-19.

From then on, Adiwang, who holds a 12-3 record, said he's more than ready to be back in the Circle alongside teammate Joshua

Pacio, who will be defending the strawweight belt against Japanese rival Yosuke Saruta.

Hexigetu, for his part, is riding on a threematch win streak with the latest coming from Thai opponent Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke in October last year to improve at 9-4 slate.

Adiwang believes that he will inch closer to the Top 5 rankings should he win against Hexigetu.

“Mabigat rin siya at may pangalan so alam kong mapapalapit tayo sa Top 5 dito and honestly I believe and I accept na kailangan kong tumalo ng Top 5 to be in the Top 5,” said Adiwang.
