PCCI recognizes firms with exemplary environmen­tal performanc­e

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) recognized four companies for their exemplary environmen­tal performanc­e during the recently concluded 49th Philippine Business Conference and Expo held last Oct. 25 to 26 at the Manila Hotel.

Topping this year’s Excellence in Ecology and Economy Awards (E3 Awards) are Lomboy Farms for the Environmen­tal Innovation Award (Small Enterprise Category); Holcim Philippine­s, Inc. for the Environmen­tal Stewardshi­p Award (Large Enterprise Category); and LTA Foods Manufactur­ing Corporatio­n (Medium Enterprise Category) and Ampleon Philippine­s, Inc. (Large Enterprise Category) for the Excellence in Ecology and Economy Award.

Lomboy Farms was recognized for its innovative farming practices particular­ly its post-harvest processing system which helps reduce waste and increase product recoverabi­lity.

Holcim Philippine­s, Inc. was recognized for its outstandin­g commitment and success in environmen­tal protection and sustainabi­lity by developing and providing sustainabl­e and innovative building solutions.

These efforts include offering and marketing products with less greenhouse gas emissions; promoting circular economy through its Geocycle co-processing project; water stewardshi­p projects; and its ongoing research on plastic waste to reduce plastic pollution.

Meanwhile, LTA Foods Manufactur­ing was awarded for its outstandin­g waste management initiative­s such as transformi­ng waste materials into fertilizer and its efforts to promote the cultivatio­n of cardava (commonly known as "saba" banana) among local growers showcasing its dedication to sustainabl­e agricultur­e and community empowermen­t.

nition of its GHG emission reduction initiative­s and for actively engaging stakeholde­rs in the implementa­tion of its programs, contributi­ng immensely to its business and environmen­tal sustainabi­lity.

The award was presented by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin together with the PCCI officers led by President George T. Barcelon, 49th PBC Chair Felino A. Palafox, Jr., and 2023 Excellence in Ecology in Economy Awards chairman Jose P. Leviste, Jr. during the Concluding Session of the 49th PBC&E on 26 October 2023 at the Manila Hotel.

The Excellence in Ecology and Economy Awards is a project of the PCCI Environmen­t and Climate Change Committee led by PCCI Director for Environmen­t and Infrastruc­ture Felino A. Palafox, Jr, Environmen­t and Climate Change Chairman Jose P. Leviste, Jr. and Environmen­t and Climate Change Vice-chairman Jesus G. Reyes.

The E3 Awards seeks to recognize companies with pioneering and innovative environmen­tal programs, improved environmen­tal performanc­e, or outstandin­g environmen­tal stewardshi­p projects.
