ST Telemedia Global Data Centers Philippines (STT GDC) has chosen First Balfour - Leighton Asia Joint Venture (FBLJV) as the general contractor for the construction of the largest data center in the country, STT Fairview.

Among the signatories of the partnership sealed at The Globe Tower in Taguig City on Nov. 13 were STT GDC Philippines Head of Design and Construction Pierre Albert San Diego; First Balfour Deputy Chief Operating Officer Jose Valentin “Joval” Pantangco, Jr.; STT GDC Philippines President and CEO Carlo Malana; Globe Chief Finance Officer and STT GDC Philippines Chairman of the Board Rizza Maniego-eala; Leighton Asia Managing Director Brad Davey; and STT GDC Chief Technology Officer Dan Pointon.

STT GDC Philippines is a partnership between Globe, Ayala Corporation, and Singapore-based ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC).

Malana said it had launched Phase 1 of the STT Fairview project, after breaking ground last May.

FBLJV will be handling the construction of the data center, which is expected to be completed and operational by early 2025.

"We collaborated with the First Balfour and Leighton Asia Joint Venture to turn our vision into reality by marrying local expertise with global best practices," he added.

FBLJV is a combined effort of local engineering and construction solutions firm First Balfour, Inc. and Asia-pacific construction firm Leighton Contractors (Asia) Ltd. under the CIMC Group.

STT GDC Philippines said “First Balfour's local proficiency with Leighton Asia’s international experience in constructing hyperscale data centers,” will enable rapid execution of the Fairview site while remaining to meet international safety and quality standards.

The STT Fairview will be built with the capacity of 124 megawatts (MW). Aside from being the largest, the facility is also expected to be the “most interconnected, sustainable, and carrier-neutral data center campus in the country.”

The firm aims to also receive a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification for the Fairview data center to ensure an eco-friendly facility.
