Awoman died while six others were injured when a sports utility vehicle (SUV) crashed into a branch of Banco De Oro (BDO) on Quirino Highway in Barangay Pasong Putik, Quezon City on Thursday, Dec. 28.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) identified the fatality as Rosali dela Cruz who was rushed to Commonwealth Hospital after getting hit by the vehicle inside the establishment. She died at midnight on Friday, Dec. 29.

The other victims were identified as Liza Jalos and Dorothy Castilo, bank employees; Edberto Lazares, the bank's security guard; and bank clients Jessica Susano, Hermie Ocampo, and Maria Cecilla Papio. They were brought to different hospitals for treatment.

Police said the accident happened at around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday when the rear portion of a Toyota Fortuner Wagon being driven by Edwin Balisong, 57, hit the front part of a Mitsubishi Adventure SUV owned by Demetrio Carbonell that was parked in front of the BDO branch in the area.

Police said that as Basilong continued to drive the SUV, he suddenly stepped on its accelerator pedal instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to move straight to the entrance of BDO branch and hit the victims inside.

The vehicle also damaged furniture and a wall in the establishment.

The QCPD said the driver of the SUV is under the custody of the QCPD District Traffic Enforcement Unit- Traffic Sector 2.

The incident is still under investigation.
