More than 200 physical stores and over 62,000 online stores to date have been flagged by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) as the agency intensifies its crackdown on the illegal sale of vape products.

The DTI monitors 69,976 vape online and 960 physical stores. As of February this year, 62,738 online vape shops were discovered to be noncompliant of the VAPE Law or Republic Act No. 11900 or the “Vaporized Nicotine and Non-nicotine Products Regulation Act and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) and were issued show cause orders (SCO).

Meanwhile, 269 physical shops were issued with SCOS and notices of violations (NOVS). They are required to submit a written explanation on their noncompliance within 48 hours of receiving the SCO and NOV.

In order to more effectively enforce the Vape Law, the

DTI is joining forces with the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP) and National Movement of Young Legislators (NMYL) to curb vaping among the public and especially the youth.

The agency is utilizing a barangaylevel approach to raise awareness on the harmful effects of vapes, particularly on minors.

With ULAP and NMYL’S help, they will conduct activities that focus on disseminating information and advocacy materials through digital platforms like social media and websites, as well as holding onsite and virtual meetings.

“If we engage the public at the grassroots level and raise awareness on the harmful effects of vape, especially on minors, we can also urge them to join us in ensuring full compliance with the Vape Law,” said Trade and Industry Secretary Alfredo Pascual.

“With this initiative, citizens will be encouraged to support our efforts in safeguarding the youth from the illegal sale of vape,” he added.

ULAP President and Quirino Governor Dakila E. Cua emphasized the organization’s support to increase public awareness and education on vapes and vaping.

In spreading the word, DTI and ULAP aim to strengthen the implementation of the Vape Law, especially in safeguarding children and apprehending violators.
